How does AdTab Antiparasitic Chewable Tablets for Cats work?

AdTab includes an active substance called lotilaner. Lotilaner is active against fleas (Ctenocephalides felis and Ctenocephalides canis) and ticks (Ixodes ricinus).

Lotilaner is a potent inhibitor of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-activated chlorine channels, resulting in rapid elimination of ticks and fleas. These parasites must be attached to your cat’s skin and start feeding on their blood to be exposed to lotilaner.

AdTab kills existing and newly hatched fleas on cats before they can lay eggs. Therefore, it interrupts the flea life cycle and prevents the environmental contamination in areas the cat has access to.

Can I use AdTab if my cat is under five weeks old?

All safety and efficacy data for AdTab were obtained in cats with eight weeks of age or older and weighing 0.5 kg or more. Therefore, administration of AdTab in kittens with less than 8 weeks of age or weighing less than 0.5 kg should be based on a benefit/risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian.

Nevertheless, due to insufficient data to support efficacy against ticks in young cats, this product is not recommended for the treatment of ticks in kittens aged 5 months and younger.

Can I give AdTab to my pregnant/lactating cat?

The safety of AdTab has not been established during pregnancy and lactation. Administer only to pregnant/lactating cats in accordance with the benefit/risk assessment carried out by the responsible veterinarian.

No, do not administer AdTab for cats to dogs or other animals.
